Its also worth mentioning that all the hirable runners have unique appearances, not just Lucky. The addition of other details, like the Katana on the model tell me they were never ideas for the same character. Likewise Monica has a datajack, which is shown on her head. The pattern on her face is near identical to the one on the wired reflex icon. The most telling aspect is that her face has all of this cyberware all over it, yet she is a Magic user - which sort of doesn't work.Īctually Lucky has Cyberware too. My guess is they were both ideas for what the "Monica" role would look like, but went with the one we see in-game because that one looked to fit in better with the rest of the established group. As someone pointed out - they even have the same hair-do. They are both characteristically unique to everything else in the game, like the other companions with speaking roles (Glory, Eiger, Deitrich, Blitz). In fact, it's almost like the developers couldn't decide whether to use the Lucky Strike model for the role Monica ended up being, or to use Monica's. That's about all there is to her - about the same as Monica.

SHADOWRUN LUCKY STRIKE PROFESSIONAL
Maybe a spin-off about their obvious semi-friendly professional rivalry.

Still, Lucky Strike is definitely something that should be explored more in an expansion or something. The most telling aspect is that her face has all of this cyberware all over it, yet she is a Magic user - which sort of doesn't work. You just aren't given enough time to appreciate Monica as a character before it forces you to care about her memory in the narrative. I think if I had one complaint about the game's story - it would be that. There is zero time spent developing the relationship between her and the PC. you don't really "feel" her death as being all that special, frankly.

SHADOWRUN LUCKY STRIKE MOVIE
She's not some Ben Kenobi whom you spend 3/4 of a movie getting to know. but the game tries to imply that I'm supposed to be bent out of shape about it too. You spent all of 10 minutes with her before she dies, and then everyone continues to lament her death all the time like she was important to them. I don't really care for Monica all that much.
